Cafe Condesa, an Antiguan institution, turns 25 years old this Holy Week. Before “Farm-to-Table” was a popular concept, they put it into daily practice. In 1993, Ginger (creator and partner) searched out the best ingredients available. She visited farms and plantations, went searching in stores all over Guatemala City and got to know local producers. Her concept was to create a home-away-from home for locals and visitors alike, with all of her favorite dishes.
25 years later, the farm fresh milk still comes in daily from a local dairy farm where the grass-fed cows are milked by hand. All of the breakfast eggs come from local, free-range chickens, fed an organic diet. The house coffee is a very special blend of Antiguan beans roasted in small batches with three different roasts to ensure a cup that is deep, full and aromatic.
While in the early years, Ginger traipsed through fields of greens in Chimaltenango, today ’s salads are made from organic greens grown right here in the valley of Panchoy. Whether they are combined with beets and goat cheese for an incredible salad or piled onto your sandwich, they are tender, fresh and delicious.
To take advantage of the wide array of seasonal fruits and vegetables, the menu is complemented with daily specials of soup, omelette, pancakes and muffins.
Cafe Condesa is well-known not only for all-day breakfast, but for the vast array of desserts offered. While many folks have asked for the recipe for the New York Cheesecake, the quality of the local cream, cheese and butter; make it unable to replicate elsewhere.
25 years later, Cafe Condesa is still looking after you with delicious healthy food, fresh, local and prepared daily.
