About this natural reserve:
The Monterrico-Hawaii Biotope is a natural reserve that extends along (at least) 20 kilometers on the coast of Guatemala. Within this huge reserve, the town of Monterrico is one of the most visited, especially by those who want to escape for a while and relax by the sea.
Things to Do:
Thanks to the richness of the region, there is a great variety of fauna and flora that you’ll be able to appreciate when taking one of the tours available with a local guide. There is a bird watching tour that’s very popular. Having this contact with the different species of marine animals and birds is an extra for all those nature lovers who want to make the most of their time in Monterrico.
If you’re all about nature, then we suggest you pay a visit to the local turtle farm and get some information about the time and dates they release baby turtles to the sea. They take the eggs that have been left on the beach and care for them until they hatch. Once the little turtles are ready to go, they release them to the sea in small events that everyone can join.
Speaking purely of the beach, taking a walk in its volcanic sand is energizing and being a witness to the crashing of the waves during sunrise or sunset is both magical and relaxing.
Spend some time in Monterrico and grab a cold local beer while you tan or read a book from a hammock. Life is great, and Monterrico will make you smile!
