A New Classic in Antigua Guatemala: Hacienda Real Arrives
Knowing Hacienda Real has been Guatemala City’s go-to prestigious steakhouse for more than 30 years, I couldn’t wait to try their new location in Antigua Guatemala.
Last weekend, I treated my family to a leisurely lunch there. The restaurant has an understated elegance, with both indoor and outdoor seating. Once we were shown to our table, our waiter, Marcos—who was exceptionally attentive—immediately offered us menus in English and served a delicious complimentary consommé.
After spotting children playing in the kids’ area, my daughter eagerly went off to join them and explore the restaurant’s very own archaeological site, giving us time to study the menu. There was plenty to choose from, and you certainly don’t have to be a steak lover to enjoy Hacienda Real.
My wife and I shared a mixed plate of grilled tenderloin and salmon, served with roasted potatoes and a skewer of mixed vegetables. She loved the salmon, and I have to say the steak was cooked to perfection. As for my hard-to-please daughter, she chose chicken fingers with fries from the kids’ menu—and ate every last bite. Even though the portions were generous, we still found room to share both a decadent chocolate cake and a vanilla panna cotta.
Whether you’re planning an intimate dinner, a family outing, or a group gathering, Hacienda Real is an excellent choice. Its secure on-site parking made our visit especially convenient, and although it’s located close to Antigua’s main hotels, the restaurant even offers a courtesy shuttle.
As we left, full and happy, I realized this wasn’t just a good meal—it was the kind of relaxed, memorable family outing that makes you look forward to coming back.
