Having been closed since the middle of March, Guatemala International Airport (La Aurora) is now open to passenger traffic. finally, flights have resumed to Guatemala.
All passengers wishing to fly to Guatemala will need to present a negative PCR or Antigen test result conducted within 72 hours prior to arrival to Guatemala. Airlines will not fly you without proof. Be warned!!! All persons entering Guatemala by air must also complete a Health Pass in advance of arrival, available online in both English and Spanish at https://sre.gt. Any individuals experiencing respiratory illness should not travel. Non-resident foreigners presenting symptoms of COVID-19 upon arrival may be denied entry to Guatemala.
The good news is that only one airline will be discontinuing serving Guatemala. The Mexican airline Interjet that had three flights a day from Mexico City will no longer fly.
American Airlines has services to Guatemala City serving Miami and Dallas.
United, have direct flights to Houston, Los Angeles, Washington and Newark.
Delta has services to Atlanta.
Avianca has services to San Salvador. They plan to resume their nonstop flight to Bogota with connections to Europe and South America.
Iberia, has a service to Madrid.
Aeromexico flies to Mexico City.
Spirit Airlines now have resumed direct flights to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando. From November, direct flights to Houston will resume.
We are still waiting for confirmation from other airlines as to when they will start services to Guatemala but I will update the article when I have more information.
Up until the airport was closed last March, around forty four flights a day were handled. Apparently, now only five or six flights a day are expected. But just having flights resume to Guatemala is a first step.
My advice would be to contact your airline directly before booking a flight and without doubt only buy a fully refundable ticket.
I have received a great deal of feedback and questions regarding the opening. My advice would be to contact your airline directly before booking a flight and without doubt only buy a fully refundable ticket.
Hopefully, by the end of the year an upsurge in demand will be of great help to the tourist sector which is crying out for visitors!
Without doubt, this is a will be a fast moving story and so Qué Pasa be keeping you updated.
