Coffee seems to be the drink that moves the world. No matter what time of day it is, a good cup of coffee lifts everyone’s spirits and renews us.
Have you ever wondered what is the process behind your cup of coffee, from the grain to the cup?
We’re going to tell you all about how it’s done. To do just that, we took a coffee tour in a renowned farm located in the surroundings of La Antigua. Since 1870, this plantation has been planting, harvesting and processing coffee. Its name nowadays is Filadelfia Coffee Resort and Tours but people candidly refer to it as Finca Filadelfia.
Located in San Felipe de Jesús, a few minutes from La Antigua; the farm has 800 hectares of green areas, in addition to a resort, two restaurants and the benefit factory; all surrounded by coffee plants, where more than 150 people work daily.
The tour starts when you get on one of their well-known huge green trucks (UNIMOGS), which takes you into the plantation to learn about the long process – and all the hands involved in it – to take the coffee cherry and process it into this drink that’s so common in our life.
After knowing first hand all the work made in the field, the tour takes you to the factory where the grains are cleaned, processed, dried and then ground and packaged. Afterwards, you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee – full of flavour and history – while you admire the unique views of the estate.
It is thanks to the quality of the coffee produced in Guatemala, and in this case, at Finca Filadelfia, that the world recognizes our country as one of the best producers of this special drink.
Paying a visit to this coffee farm should be on your list of things to do during your next visit to La Antigua. You can take the tour from Monday to Sunday, at 9 AM, 11 AM and 2 PM.
