A couple of weeks ago, I was invited by Juan Luis of Bistrot Cinq to try out their new lunchtime menu. As Bistrot Cinq is without doubt one of the must go restaurants of Antigua I could’t wait!
There is something about Bistrot Cinq that is really special; maybe it’s because it has the feel and buzz of a Parisian bistro.
So, back to the Bistrot Cinq lunchtime menu. As my host Juan Luis explained to me, the concept was to create a healthy yet delicious menu at an excellent price!
First up to taste, was a rich creamy tomato soup with just a hint of thyme. Apparently Bistrot Cinq only buys fresh local Antigua tomatoes; perhaps that’s why the soup had so much depth of flavour!
Next up was a healthy caesar salad. Bistrot Cinq’s version comes with fresh, crunchy romaine lettuce, homemade croutons, caesar vinaigrette, Parmesan cheese, and a “healthy serving of love”.
I then tried the Pasta Primavera. Perfectly timed penne with zucchini, carrots, and spinach. What made the dish was the sauce. Juan Luis told me it was a secret but I tasted great stock and much butter! Not so much healthy but my goodness outstanding!
I was pretty full by this time, but I still had more to try! And it was a treat-A rich and satisfying beef shepherds pie (known to some as cottage pie). What made it so good was that Bistrot Cinq fills it with finely diced beef tenderloin rather than ground beef. For me, it was the star of the show!
The final offering was Bread Pudding. As tempting as it was, I just couldn’t eat any more! However, Juan Luis explained that it’s made from French baguettes, with milk, eggs, and chocolate and that the pudding melts in your mouth… just as it should be.
Enjoying the Bistrot Cinq lunchtime menu as I much as I did is a joy that I’m sure you too would share. As I mentioned, the prices are excellent for such quality. Dishes start at Q40 and the most expensive is only Q90.
The Bistrot Cinq lunchtime menu runs from Monday through Thursday from 1PM-3.30PM. The menu will change periodically. Of course, you can still choose your favourite dishes from the regular menu if you wish.
Bon appetit!
