Kaldi & Kapra Mixology House: A Sanctuary for the Senses
Kaldi & Kapra continues to evolve with the opening of Kaldi & Kapra Mixology House—a space where creativity takes shape through experimentation and a deep respect for nature.
In the heart of Antigua Guatemala, just a block from the iconic Santa Catalina Arch, a colonial corner with yellow walls has been transformed into a hub of artistry. Behind a modest doorway lies a world of creation and knowledge. This expansion is guided by a simple philosophy: our nature is to grow. Inspired by the generosity of Mother Earth, every detail reflects a commitment to crafting meaningful sensory experiences.
Mixology: Where Craft Meets Science
Here, mixology goes beyond cocktail-making. It is a discipline where craftsmanship, chemistry, and intuition converge to transform simple ingredients into something extraordinary.
Local herbs are central to the experience, celebrating Guatemala’s rich botanical heritage. Each cocktail is thoughtfully composed, combining fresh, locally sourced ingredients with modern techniques, including elements of molecular gastronomy. The result is a menu designed not just to be tasted, but fully experienced.

A Journey Through the Senses
Every drink is explored through a structured sensory process:
- Visual: Color, clarity, and texture create the first impression.
- Aroma: Scent plays a dominant role in how flavor is perceived.
- Taste: Balance between sweet, acidic, and bitter elements is key.
- Texture: The final layer, from silky to bright and effervescent.
This approach turns each cocktail into a deliberate, immersive experience.
Rum & Honey: Nature in Liquid Form
Two standout tastings highlight the connection between environment and flavor.

Guatemalan Rum
These tastings focus on appreciation rather than consumption. High-altitude aging allows for a slower interaction between spirit and oak, producing remarkable depth. Rums such as Ron Zacapa reveal notes of dark chocolate, raisin, vanilla, and spice, shaped through the traditional solera system.
Honey
Honey is treated as a reflection of its ecosystem. Guests explore how different floral sources—from orange blossom to coffee flower or cloud forest—affect flavor, texture, and color. Guided tastings reveal subtle differences, from bright citrus notes to deeper, balsamic tones.
Coffee: From Origin to Cup
Coffee is approached with equal precision.
Origin and Processing
Altitude plays a key role in developing flavor complexity, with higher elevations producing denser beans. Guests also discover how washed, natural, and honey processes influence the final profile.
Roasting and Cupping
Roasting transforms green beans into layered flavors:
- Light roasts highlight floral and citrus notes
- Medium roasts bring balance and body
- Dark roasts deliver bold, smoky intensity
Cupping sessions follow international standards, evaluating aroma, acidity, sweetness, body, and balance through a structured process.
Workshops & Latte Art
Hands-on workshops complete the experience. From espresso extraction to alternative brewing methods, guests gain practical insight into coffee-making. Latte art sessions introduce the technique behind smooth microfoam and precise pouring, turning each cup into a visual expression.
Kaldi & Kapra Mixology House is more than a new venue—it’s an invitation to slow down and engage the senses. In a city already rich with culture, it offers something refreshingly immersive: a place where nature, science, and creativity come together in every glass.

Kaldi & Kapra Antigua Guatemala
Many years ago, so legend says, in 6th century Ethiopia, a goatherder named Kaldi stumbled upon his wandering flock as they sampled berries from nearby bushes. Ordinarily sluggish, his goats whose scientific name is Capra Walie suddenly started dancing and jumping; (hence the phrase, “crazy like a goat”). After tasting several seeds himself, Kaldi discovered that the berries were the cause for the increased energy. It wasn’t long before coffee beans and their stimulating effect travelled far and wide to become one of the top 3 most consumed drinks around the globe.
