NGOs play an important part in improving and sustaining the lives of so many Guatemalans. They play a critical role in a great many areas including health, nutrition, housing and welfare. We at Qué Pasa are proud to showcase some of these NGOs. Their stories are an inspiration to which a greater public ought to be aware and to which the NGOs should be applauded. Many of these NGOs have volunteer programs and Qué Pasa has a section listing them.
Las Obras Sociales
del Hermano Pedro
More than 35 years ago, Las Obras Sociales del Santo Hermano Pedro first began tending to poor and sick people in rented care homes and handing out provisions to the most needy, led by Fray Guillermo Bonilla.
Clean drinking water
Ecofiltro. Started in 2009, it has been a great Guatemalan success story. According to Philip Wilson, 80% of global illnesses is caused by the lack of access to clean drinking water, and Guatemala is no exception.
