About the Organization:
The Duane Carter Cultural Foundation is a private nonprofit organization created in 1995 to promote education and reading. The Foundation is named in honor of Duane Carter who greatly contributed to La Antigua’s cultural development.
Initially established inside the El Sitio Cultural Project, in 1998 the Foundation moved its books to the Banco de Guatemala library – now simply known as “La Biblioteca” (The Library) – located in front of Parque Central. There are more than 15,000 works, for both reading and reference, available at no charge, as well as three computers that are specifically designed for consultations on the Internet.
This place has been the space where, for years, thousands of children – both from La Antigua and from its surrounding villages – have been able to find information, meet to do their homework, and learn in a healthy environment. And today La Biblioteca remains a place for learning and discovery, promoting the love of books.
The Library:
La Biblioteca is supported by donations and contributions from people who know that they’re directly helping to prepare many young people to play an important role for the country’s future. If you would like to contribute – and make sure that the library can continue to operate – this is the time to get in contact and help. La Biblioteca needs you.
The Duane Carter Cultural Foundation’s library is located on the 2nd level of the Portal de las Panaderas #2, on the west side of the square facing Parque Central in La Antigua. For inquiries about donations, opening hours, and memberships: Phone 7832-8381.
