How did you become an Instagram Influencer?
‘It’s really weird for a Guatemalan girl to travel alone. Many girls started to follow me on Instagram because I started giving tips, talking about my adventures and that they do not need to be afraid as many feel that Guatemala is insecure. You know, it can be cheap to travel. Now I’ve started to get boys following me as well!’
Tell me about your trip to the States?
‘It was my last trip. I went with my boyfriend. In New York, we went to The Bronx. Because of the film, The Joker, we went to “The Joker Stairs.” It has become the latest attraction in New York! It’s full of people taking photos and has become so famous from the film. There were photographers and reporters asking what the people were doing. As The Bronx is not really a tourist area. I got a lot of attention as I was wearing a tiny black dress and a hat. They took a photo that went viral. It went worldwide, not just Guatemala and I was even contacted by National Geographic!’
Rebeca, can you give some tips for Guatemalans that want to become Instagram Influencers
‘To be an influencer you need to find a subject that you know a lot about. If it’s about places of Guatemala then you need to travel and discover it. And try everything. Like your magazine, It’s really amazing because if someone wants to be an influencer of Antigua they have it all in Qué Pasa. Guatemala has so many options of which you could be an influencer.
How has your life changed by becoming an influencer?
“Oh my God, it’s been really fun! I’ve made new friends. Insta friends, new travelling friends. I ‘ve had many more opportunities to travel around Guatemala as people have been checking my photos and profile and want to work with me. And it makes me so happy as I want to share with everyone how Guatemala is so awesome
Finally Rebeca, how do you get the brands to want to be part of your story?
When brands check out my photos and see how I’m working with other brands they often want to be part of my story. Tourist brands and other brands with whom I’m working such as Claro and Corona as their brands cover the whole of Guatemala. They like the type of photos and profile that I have.
