Who we are:
Quetzaltenango is the place where we work in favor of those in need; we believe that if we have health, faith and attitude we are not poor and with a little of help, we can achieve our goals. In Manos de Salvación we commit to give our beneficiaries this help they need, most of them are single women with kids.
Their work:
Manos de Salvación is currently working with 40 low-income families, trying to get them scholarships, classes and educational talks; for women, young people and kids. We try to keep families united and working as a team, to be productive generating incomes for their families. We use help provided by the government, like scholarships given by the Ministerio de Economía y Trabajo; cooking classes by the Ministerio de Educación; CONALFA help them with extracurricular education, a literacy program and accelerated primary program.
D.I.A Program:
Once a week the women receive a cooking class, meanwhile their kids are in our program called D.I.A, by its acronym in Spanish (homework, instruction and art). Here they make their homework from school, they receive principles and values classes and art. We want to help the mothers so they can be near their kids, and this will prevent them to take the wrong path; we want the mothers to spend time with their kids.
Help to women:
We look for spaces where women can development, like selling different products in a mall; to a group of girls we were able to find them a space to exhibit their paintings; we have find them scholarships English classes, marimba classes, martial arts classes and many more.
Healthy dinners:
Every Thursday we have the Healthy Dinners Program, the goal is to nurture children by giving them a hot and nutritious dinner; so the mothers don’t have to make dinner or like in many cases, there is no food in their house.
