This summer, families from around Guatemala and many foreign countries will visit Antigua in order to attend the highly recommended Green Camp, a unique summer active-learning program for children and teenagers. Finca La Azotea, an idylic 70-acre farm a short walk from Antigua, provides children the opportunity to interact with nature, animals, and one another in a positive, safe, and fun outdoor environment.
The bilingual day camp covers a wide array of topics such as environmental care, biodiversity, permaculture, art, science, culture, and history. The kids are immersed in a natural environment which becomes a source of learning and inspiration, with a focus on practices that help us take care of the planet. Each of the six weeks of Green Camp (June 18th – July 27th) highlights a specific theme in sustainability. The youngest children (3-6 years) participate in most of their activities at La Azotea, while older children (7-14 years) take multiple weekly excursions to explore and learn from relevant partnering organizations in the community.
Participants of all ages gain leadership and environmental stewardship skills to share with their communities. It is programs like this one that give us hope in our young people and our planet!
