Friday March 8 – The fourth week of Lent
The vigil of Jesus Nazareno is carried out in the Municipality of Pastores. Also the vigil of the Replicas of the Buried Lord and Blessed Virgin of the Loneliness of the Temple of the School of Christ. In the village of Santa Ana in southeast of La Antigua, a vigil is also held.
Founded at the beginning of the year 1540 in a settlement granted to the priest Juan Godínez, this village and the chapel that was built in it were the first to be settled in the Panchoy Valley. In the parish of Santa Ana, the Consecrated Image of Jesus Nazareno of the Dulce Mirada and the Consecrated Image of the Blessed Virgin of Dolores are venerated.
The funeral march dedicated to the image of Jesus Nazareno de la Dulce Mirada is titled “Jesus of Santa Ana” and was written by Alfredo Dávila Rendón.
Saturday March 9 – The fourth week of Lent
The vigil of Jesus Nazareno of the Church of El Panorama (which is reached by the road that leads to Ciudad Vieja) is carried out. In addition, the Children’s Procession with the Replicas of Jesus Nazareno de la Caída and Santísima Virgen de Dolores of the San Bartolomé Becerra Temple in the San Bartolomé Becerra village takes place.
Finally, there is the vigil of the C.I. of the Virgin of the Solitude of the Parish of Our Lady of the Assumption in Jocotenango.
Important: On Sunday, March 31, the consecration of the image of the Blessed Virgin of Dolores of the Temple of Santa Ana is carried out.
Sunday March 10 – The fourth week of Lent
The procession of the Temple of Santa Ana takes place. It is said that the image was the work of an indigenous man with the surname Balam. One of the most unusual characteristics of the image of Jesus of Santa Ana is that the hair of the image is not made with natural hair but is carved from the same wood and is part of the image itself.
This village, Santa Ana is located southeast of La Antigua around a kilometer from the central Antigua. It was founded in 1540 as a settlement given to the priest Juan Godínez. This village and the first chapel that was built there were the first to be established in the Panchoy Valley. The patronal feast in honor of Santa Ana is celebrated on July 26.
