The first week of Lent 2024 ends on Sunday. The procession of Santa Catarina Bobadilla marks the beginning of the processional processions of Lent in La Antigua. It takes roughly 12 hours, entering the Colonial City via El Calvario. Initially the procession traveled the streets of the village – and later those of La Antigua on the third Sunday of Lent. However, in 1948 by order of the Board of directors of the brotherhood of the church (and in agreement with other brotherhoods of La Antigua), it was decided that the procession should leave the first Sunday of Lent.
\The Funeral March dedicated to Jesus Nazareno de la Salvación is entitled “Jesus Nazareno de Santa Catalina Bobadilla, “You are my Salvation” and was written by José Antonio Padilla.
The village of Santa Catarina Bobadilla is located about 4 kilometers from the center of La Antigua and you can take buses to San Juan del Obispo or Santa María de Jesús to get there. The patronal feast in honor of Santa Catalina Virgen y Mártir takes place on November 25 of each year.
In the small square located in front of the temple and in the surroundings, especially on the road from the road, you can find traditional food sales associated with this Lenten season. On the side of the church there is an exhibition in which you can see the history of the image, religious artifacts and informative exhibitions about the brotherhood and the church.
