The history of coffee culture in Guatemala is not widely known. During the 1880’s, Guatemala received a wave of German immigrants. In Cobán. A few German families settled and purchased farms many of which were turned to coffee cultivation.
One German, the Sierra family began producing coffee that was exported to Germany. Today, they maintain those traditions mixed with state of the art roasting machines and coffee mills. The Sierra family, through their direct partnerships with coffee farms in Guatemala and with their extensive knowledge, have transformed the casual pastime of sipping coffee into an enriching journey at Collecto.
The Sierras and their staff bring everyone together and transport you to the wonderful Guatemalan fincas that are home to the harvest of the fresh-roasted coffee you’re drinking.
The many coffee varieties served at Café Collecto
Café Collecto understands that alliances and partnerships between small coffee producers is fundamental for the development of the coffee industry in Guatemala. That’s why they work with local coffee producers in many different Guatemalan coffee regions such as, Huehuetenango, Sierra de las Minas, San Marcos and Antigua Guatemala. Collecto wants to promote sustainable economic development among the people that work in those areas. As a result, different coffee varieties are served at Collecto, including Caturras, Geishas, Bourbones and Maragogypes, using various coffee process methods. All of them perform differently and have a unique taster characteristics that you can discover and enjoy.
If you would like more than their stellar coffee, Collecto also provides a delicious selection of food, including breakfast, homemade roast beef sandwiches, chicken salad wraps and some of the best hummus you’ll find in Antigua.
Direct from the Sierra Family farm, you will experience the freshest blueberries and persimmons in season as well as homemade jams, jellies and spices to eat there or take home along with your bags of the freshest roasted coffee beans!
