El Directorio Guatemala-Directory of NGOs
In Guatemala, NGO’s, community organisations/associations, social enterprises, and community-focused initiatives of businesses across sectors all play a critical role in supporting and providing basic goods and much needed services to local communities. It is not too surprising, then, to learn that there are literally 1000’s of organisations, groups and projects across the country that are all broadly working towards improving the quality of life for Guatemalan people. However, with such a vibrant and bustling social and community sector, it is often easy to lose track of all the inspiring and impactful work being done across both geographical and focus areas. As a result, organisations are missing out on invaluable opportunities to come together, share knowledge and experience, and develop mutually beneficial collaborations that are not only beneficial at the organisational level, but most importantly for the communities which they serve.
The El Directorio Guatemala project is looking to address this shortcoming. We understand that the vast majority of organisations in the community space want to connect, and understand that we work better together. Yet the reality that we are all too familiar with is that oftentimes we simply cannot prioritise this ideal due to the fact that we all have strictly limited and thinly spread time and resources on our hands.
El Directorio Guatemala-Directory of NGOs aims to address this barrier to collaboration by creating a free, publicly available online space that is much more than a directory. In addition to basic contact information, El Directorio Guatemala will provide complete organisational profiles with information including organisational structure and background information, descriptions of current programs and services, information around impact and objectives, as well as insights into organisational strengths, challenges and objectives. These profiles will be accompanied by regular newsletters across the network, a community notice board for real-time sharing of new initiatives and opportunities to support and collaborate, and automated email prompts facilitating the identification of opportunities for collaboration.
