The objective of the event is to facilitate knowledge dissemination and information about experiences in conservation and sustainable development, providing an opportunity for sharing, and in this way advance IUCN’s mission to “…conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable.”
“This important event is a contribution for knowledge development about environmental issues relevant to the Mesoamerican region, such as climate change, conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, water management, coasts and seas, and environmental governance amongst other topics,” stated Ursula Parrilla, coordinator of IUCN’s Guatemala Country Office.
Created in 1948, IUCN is the largest and most diverse environmental network in the world. It works with the membership and partners on a portfolio of conservation projects to halt and reverse habitat loss, restore ecosystems and improve human well-being.
The venue for Knowledge Day will be the Spanish Cooperation Training Centre, which will host Forum related activities, including experience-sharing panels, experts talks, audio-visuals and posters exhibitions; and an exhibit of publications on environmental matters.
