Boston College: Educating international citizens:
One of the main objectives of Boston College is to encourage its students to be involved, meet new people, and become international citizens so as to discover who they are as a person.
A good example of this is Francesca Marchese González, a former student who graduated in 2016. Currently, she studies at Loyola University in Chicago and is part of two different organizations within the university. There, thanks to her feeling involved with the student community, she has managed to explore her ideals and has excelled doing what she likes.
Another example of how Boston College is a valuable tool in education, comes from a former student, José Bernardo Girón. He graduated from the Baccalaureate in Computer Science. He is currently studying Engineering in Technology at the Technological Institute of Monterrey, with a full scholarship. For Bernardo, the preparation obtained during his time at Boston College was essential, especially with his level of English. Bernardo dreams of pursuing a master’s degree in Germany and working for one of the most famous video game companies: Nintendo.
It is very satisfying to know that students have initiatives that achieve special recognition. The first Guatemalan satellite already was named by a Boston College student. José Miguel Ortega Yung aged 17, who is a part of the 5th Bachelor of Science and Letters with a Computer orientation class. “Quetzal 1” received more than two thousand votes. It is believed that the satellite will be in orbit very soon and José Miguel is proud of this achievement.
Our native English speaker
Teachers are just as important as students, they are essential in helping them enhance their qualities and efforts. Gareth Gelderbloem is our English teacher for both the elementary and high school. He is from South Africa, and enjoys traveling and getting to know cultures other than his own. Gareth feels a lot of love for Guatemala, especially for La Antigua and thinks people there are really warm and friendly.
He has taught English in other countries and believes that teaching at Boston college has been great, as it has been a perfect learning opportunity. Boston College is a very positive place, and Gareth enjoys working with the children, especially helping them to advance in English.
