Café Teatro, a charming French style bistro is set within Proyecto El Sitio. With both an open courtyard seating as well as a bar and indoor seating, Café Teatro oozes charm. It’s a locals restaurant. What I mean by this, is that the clientele is mainly expats living in Antigua and Guatemalans that have fled Guatemala City. Actually, it has a real European cosmopolitan feel! Owned and run by the ever popular Swiss-French Alain Patrick, he opened Café Teatro way back in 2001. He says of Café Bistro that it has “a french bistro style with a Swiss twist”.
The signature dish is a fondue of Swiss cheese. with both Gruyere and Tilsiter which is great for sharing. Popular starters include carpaccio, a cheese plate and an excellent charcuterie. The steak bearnaise is to die for! Café Teatro is renowned for the fresh fish every Tuesday and Friday and can be ordered deep fried or grilled. Every day there are daily specials with great prices.
Wine is served by the glass, carafe or bottle. Alain makes a killer Gin and tonic!
Finally, if you love chess, then Café Teatro is for you. Oh, and I nearly forgot. It has a pretty good collection of French books that can be loaned out.
SADLY CAFE TEATRO HAS NOW CLOSED
